While not a new face in the district, Mr. Eric Vaillancourt changed positions over the summer from elementary school principal to Director of Teaching, Learning and Accountability.
For our elementary school friends, be sure to greet Mr. Vaillancourt if you see him; for everyone in the community and middle and high school, take this as an opportunity to get acquainted!
Prior to serving as Bloomfield Elementary School Principal the previous two school years, Vaillancourt worked as the principal at North Street Elementary School in Geneva City School District. Additional previous roles include assistant principal at A.D. Oliver Middle School in Brockport Central School District, as well as a teacher and instructional coach in the middle and high school in Palmyra-Macedon Central School District.
Vaillancourt is also the proud father of twin girls, Elyse and Madelyn, and proud husband to Dr. Michele Saul. The family has a black lab mix, Remy, as well as two elderly cats, Kelvin and Slinky.
“I've always been passionate about curriculum and instruction,” said Vaillancourt. “This role allows me to focus on that and work across UPK-12 which combines all of my experiences so far.”
Since starting as Director of Teaching, Learning and Accountability this summer, Vaillancourt has assisted with curriculum writing and onboarding new faculty and instructional staff, among other things.
“I hope to build relationships with our secondary buildings and further grow relationships with the community and elementary school,” said Vaillancourt. “I plan to hear from stakeholders on what their hopes and dreams are for teaching, learning and accountability. While doing so I hope to make sure that our students, teachers, administrators and families feel supported and have what they need to be successful.”
Vaillancourt, with the aid of his administrative assistant Megan Wadsworth, says he also plans to collaborate with teachers and administrators to revamp curriculum practices by creating a clear and predictable cycle of curriculum development, as well as revamp district mentoring processes and explore how to expand offerings in areas such as agricultural education.
Once the school year starts, Vaillancourt will split time between his offices in the elementary school and the middle/high school. His office in the elementary school is located on the Pupil Personnel Services side of the district office, while his middle/high school office is located inside the library.
“My goal is to not only impact teaching, learning and accountability from behind the scenes,” said Vaillancourt. “I hope to equip our teachers and administrators with anything necessary to prepare our students to be leaders and reach their full potential in our ever-evolving world!”
