Pink Out Event Raises $5,000 for Breast Cancer Awareness

Posted Date: 10/20/25 (1:25 PM)

Last week, the Bloomfield JV and Varsity volleyball teams hosted their annual Pink Out fundraiser, which raised more than $5,000 toward breast cancer awareness. Between the JV and Varsity volleyball matches against Newark, six Bloomfield Central School District staff members were recognized for their bravery in battling breast cancer.

Each staff member was given a bouquet of flowers by one of the Varsity players. Standing around them were volleyball players and coaches from both teams, everyone dressed in pink to support the cause.

"Pink Out was such a great example of how the Bloomfield community shows up—not just for volleyball, but to support those impacted by breast cancer," said Nicole Sterner, who was honored at the event. "As a survivor, I really appreciated the love and support. It meant a lot to be part of something so positive, meaningful, and fun."

In addition to honoring the six staff members, the evening's events included raffle baskets, a 50-50 raffle, a flamingo fling, concessions, and t-shirt sales, all of the proceeds going toward the cause.

The Pink Out event is just one way the Bloomfield Central School District comes together as a community. The volleyball players showed leadership and empathy by helping plan and run the event, welcoming guests, and selling t-shirts and raffle tickets.

Many from the Bloomfield community attended the event, including teachers, staff, and parents. As a District that prides itself on being kind, safe, respectful, and responsible, events like this are an opportunity to bring the community together around a worthy cause.

"I was in awe of all of the hard work, enthusiasm, and support of the Bloomfield volleyball community that was shown on Tuesday night," said Melanie Cody, who was also honored at the event. "Cancer sucks, but it is a whole lot easier with the love and support of the wonderful caring people that support you along the way."

Thank you to everyone who attended or contributed to the event. Your generosity and support helped raise over $5,000, while raising awareness and modeling the values of compassion, community, and service.
