Lead Testing Update
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I’m writing to share an important update about the water testing that was recently completed in our District.
As you are aware, as part of required testing by the Department of Health, we recently sampled all applicable drinking water sources in our buildings for lead. During our initial testing a few of the outlets were found to have lead levels above the newly lowered safety limit of 5 parts per billion (ppb). It’s important to note that under the older standard, these outlets would have met safety guidelines.
Our remediation efforts included the following:
- All outlets with higher lead levels were taken out of use right away.
- We installed lead-removal filters on six of the outlets.
- One outlet was removed completely because it wasn’t needed.
- The other outlet had the entire fixture replaced.
You’ll be receiving a letter in the mail with more details, including the specific locations of the re-tested outlets and the test results. This information will also be available on our website.
Please know that the health and safety of our students, staff, and school community is always our top priority. To that end we’ve worked closely with BOCES and the New York State Department of Health throughout this process to ensure everything was handled as it should be.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Andy Doell
