Dear Bloomfield School Community,

We received some exciting news this week! The US World and News Report published their 2027 Best Middle Schools rankings, and Bloomfield Middle School placed among the top 40% of middle schools in the state of New York. This ranking now designates our Middle School is now a U.S. News Best Middle School.

Congratulations to our Middle School and thank you to our MS faculty and staff, students and parents for your work in making our Middle School one of the best in New York State.

Here are some wonderful things that have been happening at BCS:

On Wednesday we took time at our Board of Education Meeting to recognize our Board of Education, principals and those who achieved tenure and permanent status in the District. Our Board of Education members provide thoughtful leadership and support for our district’s vision, while our principals work tirelessly to support our students, staff, and families each day.

Those who have achieved tenure or permanent status through Civil Service have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in the work they do. Our District is fortunate to have so many individuals who dedicate countless hours to serving our students. Bloomfield is a special place as the result of the special people who work and serve in our District. Their commitment, collaboration, and dedication to student success make a meaningful difference in our school community.

Over the past few weeks, Mr. Vaillancourt has seen Mrs. LaPiana supporting one of our primary aged students on the playground. He noted, “She has been right alongside them, encouraging safe play, new experiences, and positive interactions with peers. Seeing the big smiles on both of their faces says it all! We are so fortunate to have staff like Mrs. LaPiana who make our students feel so deeply valued and loved.”

The week of October 5th was Fire Prevention Week. On Thursday, our local fire departments came to the Elementary School to teach students about fire safety and show them some fire trucks. We continue to appreciate the partnership with our local fire departments.

Dr. Marchionda wanted to highlight the efforts of Mrs. Caughlin and Mrs. Pixley. They have been working very hard to create a safe, welcoming and engaging environment in their classroom. They have ensured that every child in their classroom knows they are cared for and that they belong in our school. Although some of their students have faced some challenging days, Mrs. Caughlin and Mrs. Pixley have used their special talents to help reset and restart students. They are at work every day with a smile and have demonstrated their commitment to helping each child be successful. It is amazing to watch.

At the M/HS, Mrs. Shannon visited Mr. Boelter's math class. She noted how impressed she was with how he engaged students through differentiated instruction and how he responded to individual needs while fostering a positive classroom environment through relationship-building, humor, and meaningful connections. She shared, "His approach makes learning both engaging and supportive, creating a space where students feel connected, challenged, and ready to learn."

As always, thank you for your continued support and partnership. If you have any questions or need anything throughout the year, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Photo of the Week: Last week, our Elementary School students learned about fire safety from local fire departments. They learned about the importance of an evacuation plan, what firefighters do in an emergency, and got the chance to try on gear.
