Message from the Superintendent
Dear Bloomfield School Community;
I hope everyone had a wonderful week. As we head into a busy and exciting stretch of the school year, there are many great things happening in our classrooms and throughout our school community that we are proud to share.
Prior to the February break, Bloomfield hosted a regional professional development day for Finger Lakes music educators. Visitors spoke highly of our facilities and our outstanding music program. Thank you to our music teachers and the Bloomfield Music Boosters for organizing such a wonderful event and for showcasing the incredible work happening in our music program.
Our 7th grade ELA students participated in “Book Love,” where they shared their reading experiences and recommendations with one another. It was a great opportunity for students to celebrate reading and connect through the books they enjoy.
Our talented students in grades 6–12 are continuing to prepare for next week’s spring musical, The Little Mermaid. Performances will take place on March 13 at 7 p.m. and March 14 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The cast and crew have been working incredibly hard to create a fantastic show, and we hope you will join us to support them. Tickets are available at bloomfieldcsd.seatyourself.biz.
In our art program, ceramics students recently completed their Cone Box Challenge, creating miniature ceramic pieces that fit inside a 3.5" × 6.5" box. Students had the freedom to design anything they wished, showcasing their creativity, talents, and personal interests. This project mirrors the International Orton Cone Box Show, a long-running exhibition that has celebrated small-scale ceramic artwork since the 1970s. In ceramics, a “cone” refers to a small pyrometric cone used to measure kiln temperature, so every piece our students created had to fit inside a cone box, just like in the professional exhibition. The artwork created was AMAZING! Thank you to M/HS Art teacher Amy Wylot for coordinating this unique opportunity for our students.
Our Economics class recently welcomed financial planner Chris Krolak, who spoke with students about his career and shared important insights on financial planning. Last Saturday, Mr. Krolak appeared on WHAM 1180’s Seniors Rock radio show and took the opportunity to give our students a shout-out for their thoughtful questions, outstanding behavior, and engagement during the discussion. Thank you to Economics teacher Katrina Smith for organizing this valuable experience.
Our winter sports season is wrapping up, and we would like to recognize several outstanding accomplishments.
- Congratulations to our Girls Bowling team for claiming their third consecutive sectional title. Special congratulations to Lydia Tutty, who won her third straight individual sectional title and will compete in the state tournament on March 14.
- Congratulations also to E.J. Didas, who captured a sectional title in the triple jump in indoor track.
- Our Boys Basketball team finished their season last week. The team accomplished a great deal this year, finishing with a winning record, hosting a home sectional game, and advancing to the sectional quarterfinals.
- Our Girls Varsity Basketball team will compete in the sectional championship game tomorrow at 12 p.m. at FLCC. We wish the team the best of luck as they look to capture their third consecutive sectional title.
This week, our juniors learned about the Mosaic Collaborative program available through a partnership with FLCC. This program allows 12th grade students to spend part of their mornings on campus at FLCC, where they take classes and collaborate with businesses and community organizations on real-world projects while developing both technical and interpersonal skills. This was the first year of the program, and senior Kayla Linderman has been one of the participants. On February 27, Kayla and her cohort presented the work they have done this year, which for Kayla includes projects with Lincoln on Main and the Ontario County Chamber of Commerce.
As always, thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. Please remember to let us know if you ever have any questions or ever need anything. And a friendly reminder that we move our clocks forward this weekend as daylight saving time begins.
Have a great weekend.
Andy Doell
