Scott Fitch Reminds Students to Pause Before You Post

Scott Fitch visited Bloomfield last week to talk to our Middle School students about posting online. His presentation, “Pause Before You Post,” is a reminder that what we say and share online matters. He encouraged our middle schoolers to think twice before hitting “post” because nothing really disappears on social media and what you post will follow you into the future.

Using the Bloomfield Beliefs–be kind, be safe, be respectful, be responsible–Fitch talked about what it means to be a good digital citizen and human being. Not only is it important to resist the urge to post something negative online, but Fitch also encouraged students to stand up for and reach out to people who are being bullied.

He spoke about the negative consequences of bullying and harassment, sharing stories about students and the impact it on them, as well as their friends and families. Treating people with care, choosing to be kind, and speaking up against bullying all play an important role in being thoughtful online and in everyday life.

Fitch reminded the students that Bloomfield is a special place where students know each other and look out for each other. Our Bloomfield Beliefs are embedded into daily learning at all our schools, and Fitch reminded us that this extended beyond school into our online lives and our communities.

Despite the serious content, Fitch kept the students enthusiastic and engaged with pop culture slides and quizzes about online use. It gave the kids a chance to get up, scream, and even dance, making for a loud and rowdy time.

We’re grateful for the positive message and the reminder that kindness doesn’t stop at the keyboard. Thanks to Scott Fitch for sharing this important message with our students!
