SMART Board Tips

Hooking Up SmartBoard to Laptop:

We have two models of SmartBoards in the district. Here are the directions for each model.

*Model 1 (This is the most common model):

-Plug the SmartBoard power cord into a power outlet.

-Connect 3 cords from the SmartBoard "pigtail" to your laptop:

   1. VGA cable (video)

   2. USB cable (touch ability)

   3. Audio cable (speaker ability) to the port labeled with a headphone picture on your latpop.

 *Model 2

-Plug the SmartBoard power cord into a power outlet.

-From SmartBoard Control Box, connect VGA cable to your laptop.

-For quality audio ability, connect Roland speakers to laptop with audio cable.

-Plug audio cable into the port labeled with a headphone picture on your latpop.

Instructions for Powering off SMART Board Model 1:

*PLEASE be conservative with the SMART Board projector bulb. It only takes about 2 minutes for the bulb to warm up. Please power down your SMART Board when not using it.

*To avoid your laptop going into "sleep mode":

-Press the menu button on your SMART Board and choose Scratch Pad.

-Press the power button on your SMART Board.

If Your Smart Board has No Signal:

*If your VGA cable and your USB cable are connected properly and your Smart Board has no signal, press the FN F4 keys on your laptop keyboard.

Instructions to Pull a Word or Excel Document into SMART Notebook:

*Open a Word or Excel document.

*Select File/Print.

*Choose SMART Notebook Print Capture.

*Click OK.

This process pulls your document in to the Notebook Software (it doesn't actually print). Your Word or Excel document will remain as it was.

PowerPoint Shows may also be pulled into SMART Notebook Software:

*Open SMART Notebook.

*Select File/Import.

*Browse out to your Power Point and select the Power Point Show.

It may take a few minutes for SMART Notebook to pull the Power Point show into the Notebook software.

Two ways to Bring a Scanned Item Into SMART Notebook Software:

First Way:

*Scan Item.

*Save to your home directory (H:\ drive)

*Open SMART Notebook software.

*Go to Insert/Picture File.

*Navigate out to your Home Directory and to your scanned item.

Second Way:
*Open Notebook Software.

*Choose the Insert Option => then Picture from Scanner.

*Follow the prompts.
